My sister in law Katie made the best Beer Bread when they had us over for dinner a while back. So, while I was grocery shopping on Saturday, I saw a mix for it...but was too embarrassed to buy it, along with the beer that goes in it. Well, Anton and I were at Target last night and I showed him the mix - he was all about buying it. I said I would buy it," but you have to buy the beer". Yeah right. As if Anton would pass up an opportunity to get me embarrassed. Apparently grocery stores don't carry individual cans of beer. So, it is off to Maverick. I threatened Anton I wasn't going to get out of the car if he was going to make me buy it. He gives in... "OK fine, I will buy it.". Yeah right. We get in there - and he starts wondering off. So, its up to me to buy the beer - mind you I am 7 months pregnant...there is no question I am expecting. Here is how it went:
I get up to the counter and place my one can of beer there. The lady looks at me kind of strange.
Lady: "Is this all?"
Me: "Yep!" (trying to be all friendly)
She then gives me the amount, and I pay her. She puts the beer in a sack.
Me: "Oh, I don't need the sack. Thanks though."
Lady: "Yes you do."
Me: "Oh no, really I don't. Thank you though." (I am thinking to myself 'geeze lady, just let me get out of here'.)
Lady: "Oh yes you do. Its against the law to carry the beer out without a sack".
Of course, all embarrassed, we try and explain ourselves that we have never done this before and we are making beer bread. Like she cared. She just stared at us. (I am laughing as I type this!)
Wonderful! I just made a big fool of myself! I am seven months pregnant, buying beer and I have no clue what I am doing. You can imagine how we laughed about that when we got in the car! But hey, the bread turned out good!
